Smoking flower is one of the biggest rituals in the cannabis scene, and the migration to legal hemp has taken some people by surprise. And while vapes and edibles are available, some people might feel like they are still missing the classic clouds and tokes.
Luckily, a new term has taken the new hemp scene by storm with THCA flower. These buds are classified as hemp but use the powerful THCA cannabinoid that turns into delta 9 THC when heated to create a pretty similar experience to smoking regular weed.
Now, not all strains contain enough THCA and non-active delta 9 THC to be classified as hemp. And not all of them are as tasty as you might imagine. So, we’ve gathered a small list of THCA flower strains, how this hemp flower works, and where to get the best THCA products right at our store.
Let’s start, as we’ve got a few things to unpack. But before we begin, go ahead and take a peek at our THCA products below!
- THCA flower is a new way to classify regular weed as hemp, thanks to the inactive cannabinoid.
- Essentially, THCA flower is the same as a regular flower except for the inactive THCA that won’t make you high when eaten.
- THCA feels like delta 9 flower when smoked, as it turns into delta 9 when heat or light is applied to it. This process is called decarboxylation.
- Some of our favorite THCA strains include Peach Cobbler, Berry Marmalade, and the delicious Champagne Slushie.
- The strongest THCA strain we’ve detected so far is Hippie Crasher, with over 31% of THCA levels.
What is THCA Flower
Before going in, let’s have a quick chat about THCA and THCA flower. Firstly, let’s go over the cannabinoid known as THCA. This compound is naturally found in the hemp plant and is known as the precursor of delta 9 THC.
What does this mean? Basically, when heat or light is applied to this acid, it turns into delta 9 THC naturally. Now, most cannabis and hemp plants contain THCA naturally, as it is part of the plant’s system as a whole.
Secondly, let’s address the herb part. THCA flower and regular cannabis flower are basically the same. Essentially, this kind of flower is a new way of classifying buds so it can be sold as hemp and bypass the rules.
Since the herb itself does not contain active delta 9 THC, producers pick THCA-heavy strains and sell them as a product complying with the 2018 Federal Farm Bill. This way, the flower contains less than 0.3% of delta 9 THC that’s active, which is backed up by third-party lab testing.
What Does THCA Feel Like?
Well, let’s start first with a small disclaimer. THCA is not psychoactive in its regular state, so think of it as munching on raw hemp. It won’t make you feel high or make you feel that relaxed since the molecules are so big that they can’t really bind to proteins in our endocannabinoid system.
Now, when lighting up THCA in a pre roll or joint, you’ll find it tastes and looks like regular THC. That is because, in a sense, it is. But instead of having delta 9 THC active from the beginning, it needs to be heated up for it actually to produce any effect.
