It can be challenging for those who are vegan to find delicious edibles to eat at a dispensary. Considering this, and with 4/20 right around the corner, we’ve rounded up the best vegan edible recipes for you to enjoy. Making edibles doesn’t have to just include baked goods. They can be anything from breakfast, to dessert, to lunch too. We’ll get there, but first, let’s dive deep into the world of how to make vegan weed recipes by starting with the basics.

What are vegan edibles?

If you’re vegan, you don’t eat any products derived from animals — including milk, yogurt, cheese, meat, poultry, eggs, fish, and even honey. Vegan edibles are any food items with cannabis that do not contain any animal products.

How do vegan edibles affect you?

In edibles, the active ingredient is called tetrahydrocannabinol — also known as THC, which you may have heard of before! After eating vegan edibles containing THC you’ll begin to absorb it in your bloodstream. One important, very important, aspect of eating edibles is that absorption can be delayed, depending on how much of that edible you consumed and its potency. How much food is in your stomach is also a factor! Vegan THC edibles will affect you the same way that other edibles affect you, and that cannabis affects you. Edibles offer all of the benefits of cannabis without the negative benefits associated with smoking and have a longer effect on you too. The positive benefits of pain reduction, for example, last even longer.

As with all edibles, be sure to proceed with caution and start small, keeping the potency of the food and your own tolerance in mind. And always make sure to disclose that there is cannabis present when sharing with friends. A note to your roommate will go a long way when you leave some delicious-looking baked goods on the counter!

What basics do I need in these vegan marijuana recipes?

First thing’s first — you have to start with the basics. Each of the recipes we’ve rounded up for you requires the use of one of the following:

Ingredients for the dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon of white sugar

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

  • 1 cup of cannabis butter, chilled

  • ¼ cup of cold water

Ingredients for toppings!

  • ¼ cup of melted butter, use cannabis butter for more potent pot pop-tarts, or

  • 1/4 cup of sugar

  • 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment to prepare the Pot pop tarts for their trip in the oven.

  3. While you wait for the oven to preheat, sift together the flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.

  4. Add in the chilled vegan cannabis butter with a pastry blender until crumbly.

  5. Add in the vanilla, and then mix in the cold water, 1 tablespoon, at a time, until the dough forms into a ball.

  6. Divide the dough into two pieces and cover with plastic wrap — chill in the fridge until firm. This will usually take about 1 hour.

  11.  Poke 3 holes in the top of each pastry with a toothpick or the tips of a form.

  12. Carefully transport the pastries onto the lined baking sheets, baking in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 25 to 30 minutes.

Make sure to let them cool for about fifteen minutes before eating them! Yum.

  • 1 cup of cashews that have been soaked for 4 hours and rinsed

  3. In a blender, combine the water, cannabis oil, soaked cashews, nutritional yeast, garlic, lemon juice, tamari, apple cider vinegar, and salt. Make sure to blend this until it’s smooth.

  4. Fill the avocado halves using a spoon with the cashew cream blend.
