Like many other alternative cannabinoids, HHC legality is still swimming in murky waters. Until cannabis is more widely legalized across the United States, we’ll have to continue to navigate these waters as best as we can. That’s why we’re here to answer all of your questions about HHC and HHC legality.

What is HHC?

HHC (or Hexahydrocannabinol) is a hemp-derived cannabinoid that can be found in trace amounts in cannabis. HHC interacts with the body like other cannabinoids such as THC and CBD and is absorbed into the bloodstream where it’s then carried to the endocannabinoid system (or ECS.) The ECS contains cannabinoid receptors which, when introduced to a cannabinoid, produce the different physical and mental feelings and effects we’ve come to know from marijuana.

Will You Pass a Drug Test on HHC?

Since HHC regulations are so new, there isn’t a specific HHC drug test. However, HHC has the potential to show up on other drug tests, meaning the answer isn’t concrete. Thankfully, we have a whole blog breaking it down for you!

Where is HHC Available?

Online, mostly. Since HHC is still so new in its research and development, many brick-and-mortar smoke shops don’t have as many alternative cannabinoids as online smoke shops may have. Your best bet is to find a trusted online retailer (you know, like Delta Munchies) that will be completely transparent about their HHC cultivation process.

Is HHC Federally Legal?

Yes, HHC is federally legal, but it is not state-by-state. In 2018, a federal bill called the Farm Bill was passed that allowed trace amounts of certain cannabinoids to be legally sold in hemp. While this created the “cannabinoid loophole” that has allowed so many alternative cannabinoids (like delta 8) to be explored, each state still has its own cannabis laws that will ultimately be the deciding factor on whether HHC is legal where you are.

Where is HHC Legal? And Where is HHC Illegal?

Because HHC legality is always changing, the answers to these questions aren’t concrete. The legality of HHC differs on a state-by-state basis, so it’s super important to always stay as up-to-date as possible with your individual state’s cannabis laws.

Is HHC Legal in My State?

Since the answer to this is always changing, we’ve created a comprehensive list of states where HHC is legal and where HHC is illegal.

Disclaimer: This article was originally written in May of 2022 and accurately reflects the legal status of HHC at that time. While we will always do our best to keep our lists updated, if you’re unsure about the legality of HHC or any other cannabinoid in your state, please make sure to look at your individual state’s most up-to-date cannabis laws and policies.
