History of French Inhaling

Because more countries and societies are accepting cannabis culture, many cannabis enthusiasts and consumers are pulling off cool tricks, and one of them is the French inhale. Although the true origins of the French inhale are unknown, it is a trick that shows how smoking and vaping have become quite popular in France and the world.

Pop culture is not a stranger to the French inhale. Famous rappers and known weed smokers, Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa even dropped a track called “French Inhale.” The music video for this fire track features these two rappers engaging in their favorite activity– which is smoking weed while showing off their perfect French inhale skills.

But if you want to go further back in time, Snoop and Wiz weren’t the first people to bring French inhaling to the screen. If you remember the 1978 movie, Grease, there is one scene where the female protagonist Sandy Olsson, played by Olivia Newton-John, is trying to learn how to do it.

Aside from pop culture, tricks like the French inhale also became popular since vape competitions became a thing, and the French inhale became one of the competitor’s go-to tricks. The French inhale also has different variations, like The Bane, The Dragon, and The Bull Ring. But because this article is about how to do a French inhale for beginners– we’ll get more into these trick variations some other time!

Will French Inhaling Get You Higher?

Although you might feel like you get higher when you inhale smoke from your nose, the French inhale does not get you higher. Some people swear that they get higher when they perform this trick, but there is no scientific proof that it can. It is safe to say that it might just be a placebo effect or illusion of being higher.

If anything, it will probably get you high faster because the oxygen will hit your brain faster by inhaling the smoke through your nostrils, but it will not make you extra high. For beginners who are just learning the ways to get high, there wouldn’t be much of a difference.

Is French Inhaling Bad for You?

There is no good or bad way to smoke weed. But with that being said, you would probably be happy to know that French inhaling might actually be better than inhaling the smoke through your mouth.

Why? Well, when you inhale smoke through your nose, some contaminants and excess smoke are blocked by nose hairs– leaving you with only the beneficial chemicals and cannabinoids like THC and CBD. With that said, we think it’s safe to say that learning how to French inhale might help your lungs and throat in the long run.

French Inhale vs. Irish Waterfall

These two tricks are literally the same thing, with the name being the only difference. Depending on where you are from, you probably learned one thing or the other. However, the French inhale is probably the more popular term for this trick because of the pop culture references.

How to do a French Inhale

Now that you know the history and more information about the French inhale, here comes the exciting part of actually learning how do you French inhale. Here is a step-by-step guide that will help you learn and master this neat smoke trick!

Take a large puff of smoke, then hold it in your mouth

You start off by taking a large puff of smoke, but instead of inhaling it into your lungs, just hold it inside your mouth and trap the smoke until the next step.

Slowly open your mouth to release the smoke

Normally, you would inhale the smoke and hold it in there before blowing it out. But to do this trick, you would have to slowly open your mouth and keep your tongue positioned at the back of your mouth.

Pout your bottom lip and send the smoke upward

To guide the smoke to your nose, you should pout your bottom lip and stick your jaw forward until you feel some sort of underbite. Your tongue should stay in the back position until the next step.

Use your tongue to push the smoke out of your mouth

Use your tongue to push the smoke out constantly without blowing the smoke or exhaling. To do this step, you would need to slowly move your tongue to the front of your mouth. Avoid pushing the smoke out too quickly because it would dissipate the smoke without completing the trick.

Start breathing through your nose

As the smoke is coming out of your mouth slowly, you need to simultaneously inhale the smoke through your nose to form the waterfall. The trick is not to inhale it quickly to see the reverse waterfall effect. This part of the trick is probably the hardest, so be prepared to try it over and over until you get the hang of it.

Inhale through your nose until all the smoke in your mouth is gone

Inhale all the smoke through your nose to complete the trick. There are some cases when you puff too much smoke, and there will still be some leftover smoke in your mouth. If this is the case, just exhale the remaining smoke in your mouth with all the smoke you just inhaled from your nose.
