Delta 8 THC has become one of the most popular ways that cannabis users have been enjoying the experience of weed. Since its recent inception into the cannabis market, the sales, use, and distribution of delta 8 products have absolutely exploded.

This means that the delta 8 product selection has also exploded as well. When delta 8 first hit the market, there were limited options, but innovations in cannabis science have allowed researchers and cultivators to harness the effects of delta 8 in all kinds of different forms; as edibles, in tinctures, in raw flower form, and also in concentrated forms (as vapes or wax.)

That also means that they’ve been able to cultivate a variety of different delta 8 weed strains. (With this came new delta 8 strains and effects). Delta 8 is not a one-sided cannabinoid––just like delta 9 THC, delta 8 comes in a variety of types, flavors, strains, and methods of consumption.

To learn more about the different types of delta 8, read on for our delta 8 strains list, where we explore the similarities, differences, benefits of each type (or strain) of delta 8.

Types of Delta 8

Delta 8 is a form of THC (or tetrahydrocannabinol.) It is closely related to delta 9 THC, which is the cannabinoid that we are most familiar with as it’s the cannabinoid that’s responsible for triggering a psychoactive experience we feel when we consume it (or what we more commonly refer to as a ‘high.’) Since Delta 8 THC is molecularly very similar to delta 9 THC, they will have some similar effects to each other. But just because they are similar does not mean they are the same.

Besides molecular structure, the most significant difference between delta 8 and delta 9 is potency. Delta 8 is a much milder version of delta 9, but will still trigger psychoactive effects when consumed in high enough quantities. There are a few different delta 8 types (more commonly referred to as strains) that will give you a markedly different experience depending on which one you decide to use.

It’s also important to remember that cannabis affects every individual completely differently––It all depends on your mood, individual preferences, and overall tolerance to weed, among other physiological factors. There is no wrong strain or way to use each strain. If you prefer an Indica strain in the morning instead of a Sativa strain, that’s great. If you like Sativa at night because you don’t enjoy smoking in the morning, that’s cool too. If you don’t vibe with hybrids at all, it’s no worries. There are absolutely no rules to when and how you’re supposed to smoke your bud.

Delta 8 Strains

Delta 8 THC comes in the same typical strains that delta 9 THC comes in: Sativa, Indica, and hybrids.

If you’re looking for a specific type of high, such as a super energizing one or a mellow, relaxing one, a delta 8 THC Sativa or Indica would be your best bet. But there are also some fantastic delta 8 hybrids out there as well that will give you the perfect mix of both.

There are some pretty essential differences to note between them and some individual pros and cons that make each one super useful in completely different ways. While we’re not going to go into super specifics here (like listing each specific one, such as Pineapple Express, Sour Deisel, Grandaddy Kush, Lemon Haze, Zkittlez, Blue Dream, etc.), here’s a short and sweet delta 8 strains list that will get you started on learning the basics of each type of delta 8.

Delta 8 Sativa

Delta 8 Sativa strains are going to be your go-to for a strong, energizing, and uplifting high. These strains are best for wake and bake sessions and will give you a great jump start to your day. (Some people use it in place of caffeine or, for a turbo boost, alongside caffeine!)

Delta 8 THC Sativa pros:

  • It increases energy. Sativas are known for producing a very energizing and uplifting high which prompts many people to use it in the morning, or before they have to do a task that requires them to have significant energy.
  • It helps with clearheadedness. It helps to enlighten and clear the head and make way for ideas and creativity, and many cannabis users have also said that they like to use a Sativa strain right before they have to do something that involves work or creativity.
  • It’s a mood elevator. Sativa strains will not only put a pep in your step, but they will also help to elevate your mood. Sativas are generally pretty strong strains and can easily its users into fits of cannabis-fueled giggles. (Which, if you know, is the best thing ever.)

Delta 8 Indica

Delta 8 Indica strains are perfect if you’re looking for a mellow, relaxing high. In addition, these strains are great for using before bed to help you sleep.

Delta 8 THC Indica pros:

  • It’s relaxing. Indica strains are the perfect strains for smoking after a long and stressful day. So come home, get into your comfy clothes, light up a nice Indica joint, and let the stresses of the day be left behind.
  • It helps with anxiety. It’s no secret that medical marijuana is used frequently to treat mental illnesses like anxiety and panic disorder, so even if you don’t have a prescription, if you live in a legal state, grabbing a nice Indica strain may help to quell your panic and anxiety. (You also don’t have to have generalized anxiety disorder to reap the benefits of this. Any time you are feeling a little anxious or nervous, an Indica may help!)
  • It helps with sleep. Because Indica strains are so relaxing, they are wonderful for helping people who suffer from insomnia or other sleep-related issues. Even if you don’t suffer from chronic sleep loss, you can still use an Indica on the nights that you find yourself tossing and turning.

Delta 8 Hybrid

Delta 8 hybrid strains are great if you want a high that’s neither too energizing nor too mellow. It’s the perfect middle ground that can be enjoyed at any time.

Delta 8 THC hybrid pros:

  • It’s not too extreme either way. Some people aren’t looking to be specifically energized or relaxed––they’re just looking to get high. And we respect that! A strong Sativa strain can occasionally cause anxiety, while a strong Indica strain may cause things like couchlock or brain fog. Hybrid strains are perfect for that middle ground, some calling it the “Goldilock’s Zone” of highs that won’t leave you on either extreme end of the spectrum.
  • It’s great for activities. Hybrids are the perfect strains for doing fun things like drawing, crafting, gardening, hiking, picnicking, or any other fun activity.
  • It can be consumed at any time of day. If you are super sensitive to how things like delta 8 THC Sativa or Indica affect you, a hybrid may be the better choice. You can smoke it in the morning without getting too high to function, and you can smoke it at night without sacrificing any sleep. It’s the best of both worlds!
